Domain & WHOIS lookup

See a domain's registrar, registration dates, lock status, and when it expires.

Enter a domain and we query the registry over RDAP (the modern replacement for WHOIS) and report who it is registered through, when it expires, and how well it is locked down.

What this checks

  • When the domain was registered and when the registration expires, with a countdown.
  • The registrar the domain is managed through, and when its record was last changed.
  • Whether a transfer lock is in place to stop the domain being moved without your say-so.
  • Whether DNSSEC is enabled to protect against forged DNS answers.

Why it matters

A lapsed domain registration is a total outage: the site and its email stop resolving the moment it expires, and the name can be snapped up by someone else. It is also one of the easiest failures to prevent, because the expiry date is known months in advance. A transfer lock and DNSSEC are quiet protections against a domain being hijacked, so it is worth confirming they are on.
