# Domain expiry monitoring

A domain that lapses takes the site, the mail and every subdomain with it, and buying it back can be slow, expensive or simply impossible. Ranetrace watches the expiry date behind your sites, alerts you well before the registration runs out, and shows the registrar, the registration dates, DNSSEC and the locks that keep the domain from being moved without you. It needs no code, and it covers most common top-level domains.

## A lapsed domain takes down everything on it

The site, the mail and every subdomain go at once, and getting the domain back can be slow and expensive. It is also one of the few outages you can prevent entirely by watching a single date.

- **Days until expiry**: See how many days your domain has left at the top of the page, so the renewal date is never something you have to go looking for.
- **Alerts well before it lapses**: Get notified long before the registration runs out, with room to renew or sort out a failed payment.
- **Registration details**: See which registrar holds the domain, when it was registered and when the record was last updated.
- **Registrar locks**: The transfer, update and delete locks are the protection against domain hijacking. Each one shows as locked, unlocked or unknown.
- **DNSSEC status**: See whether DNSSEC is on for the domain, so you know if your DNS answers are signed or open to tampering.
- **A verdict in plain language**: Every check ends with what was found, why it matters and what to do about it, instead of a table you have to interpret yourself.
